Beyond the State: Global Health Governance
Amid contention that global governance was unprepared and incapacitated in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this November, a special session of the World Health Assembly will convene to discuss a potential international instrument on pandemic preparedness and response.

Marking the launch of the 'International Pandemic Lawmaking: Conceptual and Practical Issues' Symposium, this webinar will bring together leading scholars to critically discuss cross-cutting themes of the Symposium, and key points of contention and recommendation for the future of global pandemic governance.


Gian Luca Burci is Adjunct Professor of international law at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. He is also the Director of the joint LLM on Global Health Law and Governance between the Graduate Institute and Georgetown Law School, as well as Academic Adviser in the Global Health Centre of the Graduate Institute.

Sakiko Fukuda-Parr is a Professor of International Affairs at The New School. Her teaching and research have focused on human rights and development, global health, and global goal setting and governance by indicators.

Aeyal Gross is Professor of International and Constitutional Law at Tel-Aviv University, and also Visiting Professor of Law at SOAS, University of London.

Tsung-Ling Lee is an Assistant Professor of Law at Taipei Medical University. Her research interests lie at the intersection of law, medicine and ethics.

Chaired by Joelle Grogan, Senior Lecturer in Law at Middlesex University London and Research Fellow at CEU Democracy Institute Budapest, and Co-Convenor of the Symposium.

Launching 20 September 2021, the "International Pandemic Lawmaking: Conceptual and Practical Issues" symposium publishes critical insights and recommendations for this potential pandemic treaty each day on Bill of Health and Verfassungsblog.
